State of Origin Rivalry Returns in 2022

Men’s Netball NSW is excited to announce that they will host the 2022 Men’s Netball State of Origin Series in Sydney next month. New South Wales and Queensland will clash once again and continue their decades long rivalry to see who will claim victory as the superior state in Men’s Netball.

MNNSW President Clare McCabe said “we are excited to be hosting the 2022 event, playing all games at Ken Rosewall Arena and working with Netball NSW in a showcase spectacular of netball on Saturday.  The inter-state rivalry in netball is just as fierce as in rugby and we look forward to seeing some amazing netball over the two days.”

To be held on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th August 2022, this action packed two day series will see 3 divisions of both mens and mixed netball from both states compete for the title. The Men’s Open, Mixed Open and Men’s 23/Under teams will be putting it all on the line in a best of 9 matches with the overall winner being declared as the State with the most games won across all divisions.

In what was a breakout moment for men’s netball last year, the Men’s Netball State of Origin Series was born from the idea of providing our state teams, that are embedded in our high performance programs, the opportunity to play elite netball after the cancellation of the Australian National Championships in both 2020 and 2021. It has now become a permanent showcase event on the Men’s Netball calendar.

Queensland Suns President Steven Curr said ” until recently the Australian Men’s & Mixed Netball Championships was the single elite event in the men’s netball calendar. The State of Origin Series provides a unique opportunity to showcase our growing sport whilst going head to head with one of our greatest rivals. Last year NSW won the series and we want to level the ledger in August.”

Men’s Netball NSW is the premier sporting association that provides the opportunity and pathway for young boys and men to play netball across the state. Established in 1985, it has grown to over 350 members competing in the MLeague Competition and NSW State Representative Teams.

Partnering with Netball NSW, the games played on Saturday 6th August will be part of a showcase event culminating in the 2022 Origin Premier League Grand Finals.

All games will be played at Ken Rosewall Arena.  Match times and ticket information will be available shortly.
