The first of the age state teams have been selected for MNNSW, with the 17s list agreed after an extensive screening process.
The newest kids on the block rose to the top through a month-long in school and squad talent acquisition campaign, that continues to attract new and exciting talent to the program. Coach Georgie Arrow said her group is filled with raw talent and now the job is ahead to “sharpen skills, prepare young bodies and grow our netball IQ” in her class of 2021. “One of the privileges in coaching the youngest group of athletes in this program is knowing that each and every athlete has so much upside for me to build with. The netball these boys produced at trials was an exciting baseline, but I can’t wait to see what they produce when we build on the basics and then some court craft after Christmas when we hit phase 2 of pre season” Arrow said.
Arrow highlighted her program will be hammering the basics of netball for multiple months, citing it as the key to success. “In this division more than any, it’s as much about which state can reduce the error rate of a young team as most are contending with their first nationals. Our phases of preparation will play to this and ensure we have stayed in the basics for as long as we have to, and created simulations that mean the players know what it takes to perform under fatigue and pressure come nationals” Arrow added.
President Clare McCabe was excited about the finalisation of the state programs youngest side. “Our talent pathway is becoming wider and wider each year. It’s not quite at the point we need it to be to ensure we have sustainable talent pools for decades to come, but we are much farther ahead than yesteryear. Our schools program is shaping as one of our best scouting environments, and we continue to work across NSW to find those boys who fall out of the junior girls programs when they age out. It’s exciting to see this group come through those channels, and I definitely think we have a few future Sonix in our midst that we can’t wait for Georgie and her crew to unveil.” McCabe said.
The final state team announcement will the 20s group which is being finalised this week.
