After winning national back to back titles this year, success is now a characteristic of Men’s Netball in NSW rather than an aspiration.
“Success for me isn’t only about winning titles, it’s about giving players opportunities and helping them realise and unlock their potential” says NSW Opens Coach Teresa Tairi.
“That’s why I’m excited with this new squad. There’s a good mix of youth and experience and after speaking with them individually, they’re all excited and can’t wait for the journey ahead.” she says.
There’s a change of guard with five of this years winning Open Men’s team not returning for next years campaign.
All teams go through a transition of change and with so many spots to fill, ‘Coach T’ as she is known, had a difficult time selecting her final 12.
“I was thrilled with the level of play at trials and sadly some players have to miss out. I found it hard to lock down my final team because there was so much talent to choose from.”
“The exciting part though is that I’m able to take on a handful of players from time to time to train with the Opens Team.”
“It not only helps us develop a wider pool of players in case of injury or replacement, it gives them the knowledge of what is expected at Opens level and keeps everyone accountable and working for their positions.”
“If a change is needed then the transition won’t be as shocking or new, plus whatever they learn they can take back to their teams. We want to develop all our teams across the board and having this cross-transference of knowledge is a positive step in that direction.”
Men’s Netball NSW are also excited to welcome Australian Diamonds Attacking Specialist Coach, Megan Anderson as the Opens Assistant Coach this season.
“I can’t tell you how thankful I am to have Megs on board.“ says Tairi.
“We’ve been close friends for a long time and after having hip surgery this week, I’m extremely fortunate she has offered her time and support for this campaign as I go through my rehabilitation and recovery.”
I know the players are ecstatic they have someone of her calibre to learn from and the bonus for me is I get to hang out with my friend more often.”
